Jesus Christ Superstar to tour OZ
The award-winning spectacular production of Jesus Christ Superstar will bring salvation in the new technological era to Australia. Faithful and unfaithful servants will be blessed by the 1970s rock musical's the heavenly tunes and “peculiar” modern version of the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth.
Celestial voices and divine talent will fill the stages across the country with blissful glory. Australian Tim Minchin will play Judas Iscariot, Sporty Spice Mel C will perform as Mary Magdalena and UK TV talent quest find Ben Forster will star as Jesus.
Jon Stevens, who played Judas in the 1992 concert tour in front of almost one million people, will perform as Pontius Pilate in the 2013 reboot. Finally, Deal or No Deal host Andrew O'Keefe starring as King Herod.
The revamped production will open in Perth (31 May and 1 June), then it will move on to Adelaide (4-5 June), Sydney (7-8 June), Brisbane (11-12 June), and finally Melbourne (14-15 June).
Jesus Christ Superstar was the first musical by Tim Rice (lyrics) and Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) to be produced for the professional stage. The production debuted on Broadway in 1971 and ran for two years engrossing £2.8 million at the box office. The masterpiece won Andrew Lloyd Webber the prestigious Drama Desk Award as Most Promising Composer for Jesus Christ Superstar in 1972.
Nowadays, Andrew Lloyd Webber is one of the most successful producers of all time. He is famous for his work in smash-hit productions like The Phantom of the Opera, Cats and Evita.
