Julie Andrews brings her magic Down Under
Some of us treasure sweet childhood memories of Julie Andrews. While eating our porridge -some memories are sweeter than others- Julie Andrews taught us to fly with umbrellas or the musical notes by singing along. Indeed, the star is a timeless icon of stage and screen that has warmed hearts worldwide.
Now the excitement is building up Down Under as rumours have finally been confirmed. It has taken a while while, but it has finally happened: Julie Andrews will be touring Australia this year for the first time ever.
Producers John Frost and Phil Bathos have disclosed that the multi-award winning actress, director, writer and singer will come to Australian shores to perform in An Evening with Julie Andrews. The tour will take the British performer to Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne in May this year.
An Evening with Julie Andrews will display the perfomer's six-decade long career. As it usually happens in showbiz, her professional life has been characterized by peaks and valleys.
Throughout 60 years, Andrews has conquered Broadway, the West End and Hollywood. The roles she created are some of the most famous ever written for stage or screen which include Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Victoria Grant in Victor/Victoria, Guinevere in Camelot, Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins -her screen debut which won her a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.
Andrews will be accompanied by a special guest host American born Australian actor Nicholas Hammond -who played Friedrich Von Trapp in The Sound of Music. An Evening with Julie Andrews will take the audience on a journey of discovery of the icons life and career in a sincere and amusing evening of personal memories and insights.
Julie Andrews will be in Brisbane on 18 May, in Perth on 21 May, in Sydney on 24 May, in Adelaide on 28 May, and finally in Melbourne on 31 May before she says “so long; farewell” to Australia.
